The centrifugal extractor, commonly referred to as the oil decanter reducers, is without a doubt the most important and most expensive piece of machinery within a crusher, and the reducers driving it is at its core.
The gearbox is often one of the most delicate parts of the machine as it bears and supports most of the load and shock that can occur during operation.
Oil decanter reducers
There are two types of decanter reducers: cam-driven cycloidal and gear-driven epicyclic.
The choice of reducer is clearly up to the manufacturer, who chooses the technology based on their design calculations, machine performance and maintenance needs and/or expectations.
In recent years, a kind of hybrid technology has gained popularity, i.e., a cycloidal reducer with an epicyclic pre-stage, which allows work at very high reduction ratios (greater than 100) and allows for less decay of the torque curve at high rpm.
Production and marketing of Oil Decanter Reducers
Omme Gears, based in Falconara Marittima (Ancona), manufactures and markets centrifuge gearboxes with hybrid cycloidal technology. The company works with major national and international brands and is familiar with the standards needed to support crushers and machine shops in their maintenance needs.
Finding spare parts or a completely new gearbox, especially for machines that have passed the manufacturer’s warranty period, is definitely complicated. Very expensive costs and long lead times for procurement are the main reasons for this. In addition, since the gearbox is a particularly delicate part of the centrifuge, it is very difficult to find the right, reliable people who really understand its state of wear and tear.
Inspection and proper operation of Decanter Oil plants
Before the oil extraction process, it is essential to assess the condition of the gearbox to avoid costly stoppages during the labor intensive period.
Omme Gears can assess the condition of your gearbox within a few days, helping you decide whether to proceed with an overhaul or a replacement with a new gearbox. A state-of-the-art metrology room and a highly trained engineering department are key to overhauling or making any type of model from new.
In a matter of weeks, the mill or machine shop will have a decanter gearbox in house ready to tackle the demanding period of olive oil production.
