All three decanter gearbox technologies offered by Omme Gears Srl are ATEX certified (Group 2) and can be manufactured in stainless steel AISI304 – AISI316. Below, we delve into the three types of decanter gearboxes provided by this exceptional gearbox manufacturer.

Cycloidal Gearboxes

Cycloidal gearbox technology offers high reduction ratios (up to 1:87) in a compact design. This type of decanter gearbox is ideal for a wide range of centrifuges, from laboratory use to industrial applications, and supports both fixed and adjustable differential speeds with single- or dual-motor configurations. Additionally, the DIN5480 output ensures efficient torque transmission and can be directly integrated into the centrifuge.

Technical Specifications:

Construction Sizes: 12Output Torque: Up to 46500 NmDynamic Balance: G6.3 or G2.5 in accordance with ISO 1940
Execution for fitting: Flanged with male and female centringReduction Ratios: From 15:1 to 87:1
Lubrication: Oil or grease, depending on the gearbox size.
Direction of rotation between Input and Output: DiscordantNoise Level: Low noise level thanks to transmission by rolling frictionHigh-pressure resistant seals: Achieved through design features that ensure durability up to 10 bar
Input cylinder shaft: With keyOutput connection: Hub with male or female spline according to DIN5480Seals resistant to extreme temperatures: Achieved through the use of materials such as FKM or PTFE.

Additional Advantages:

  • High torque-to-size ratio
  • Compact design ensuring balanced rotating masses and reduced vibrations
  • Wear-free operation even at low differential speeds

Planetary Gearboxes

Planetary decanter gearboxes are designed with two or three reduction stages, available in 11 sizes with torques ranging from 2.5 kNm to 120 kNm and reduction ratios from 1:20 to 1:224. They are ideal for separators where the screw rotates slower than the drum and high torque at high differential speeds is required. These gearboxes support both constant and adjustable differential speeds with single- or dual-motor configurations.

Cycloidal Gearboxes with Planetary Stage

This series of decanter gearboxes is a hybrid technology as it combines a cycloidal stage with a planetary stage, offering high reduction ratios (up to 1:348). The configuration provides flexibility for decanter centrifuges with screw speeds that are either slower or faster than the drum speed.

The ON and OV models support both constant and adjustable differential speeds, while the OR model allows independent adjustment of the screw speed relative to the drum speed, reducing energy consumption by allowing the installation of smaller motors.

Technical Specifications:

Construction Sizes: 12Output Torque: Up to 46500 NmDynamic Balance: G6.3 or G2.5 in accordance with ISO 1940
Execution for fitting: Flanged with male and female centring
Reduction Ratios: Double reduction stage; from 45:1 to 348:1
Lubrication: Oil lubrication with closed system, expansion tank or external hydraulic control unit
Direction of rotation between Input and Output: Concordant/DiscordantNoise Level: Low noise level thanks to transmission by rolling friction High-pressure resistant seals: Achieved through design features that ensure resistance up to 10 bar
Input cylinder shaft: With keyOutput connection: Hub with male or female spline according to DIN5480Seals resistant to extreme temperatures: Achieved through the use of materials such as FKM or PTFE

Additional Advantages:

  • Higher reduction ratios compared to cycloidal gearboxes
  • Ability to drive the decanter centrifuge with a screw speed slower or faster than the drum
  • For OR series gearboxes: Fourth fixed rotation shaft, achieved by using a reaction arm and load cell for continuous torque monitoring, with the option for safe shutdowns in case of anomalies
  • Independent screw rotation management, separate from drum rotation speed
  • High efficiency and low operating temperature

Which Decanter Gearboxes Are the Best for Your Application?

The answer is: it depends on the application.

For example, for applications that require high torques at high differential speeds, or for configurations where the screw rotates slower than the drum, the planetary gearbox is the ideal choice, even though it is bulkier and heavier compared to the cycloidal gearbox. On the other hand, for applications that require moderate torques and low differential speeds (up to a maximum of 15 rpm) or for installations where the screw rotates faster than the drum, the cycloidal gearbox is the best solution, also due to its smaller size and lighter weight (read also “Planetary vs cycloidal comparison: who would win?“). The hybrid gearbox, however, offers greater flexibility and efficiency for a wide range of operational needs.
